Alaska, circa 1900

This finely carved and incised ivory handle features a stylized walrus with a tusk on either side of a down-turned mouth. The tips of the tusks are joined with a small walrus head attached to the underside of the larger. The fine engravings include the eyes of the mother and the calf, their snouts, and the tiny dots for the whiskers.
