NA-2506 An Early Northwest Coast Chilkat Dancing Blanket
Tlingit Tribe, circa third quarter of the 19th Century.
Masterfully woven of mountain-goat wool, the hair of the mountain-goat, and yellow cedar bark, with native pigments, this is an earlier example of the "diving whale pattern". This outstanding example of a 'Robe of Nobility' on the Northern Northwest Coast is extremely rare from this early period.
